Muhammadiyah: Qurbani Funds Can Be Diverted To Help Residents Affected By The COVID-19 Pandemic

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Tarjih and Tajdid Council of PP Muhammadiyah Syamsul Anwar is of the view that funds for the procurement of sacrificial animals should be diverted and can be used to help underprivileged residents affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. "In the current conditions, many members of the community are exposed to COVID-19, especially those who are in a weak economic group. For example, those who work selling, then there are families who are affected by COVID-19 and cannot sell. These people really need compensation, because there is no income at all, "Anwar said in a broadcast that monitored from Jakarta, reported by Antara, Thursday, July 1. In the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, he said, sensitivity of conscience between human beings is needed, especially for those who are directly affected. Anwar reminded the verse in the Koran that ordered to support the poor. "Religion is not only carried out literally, this is Eid al-Kurban we sacrifice, but religion is also carried out with a rational mind and sensitivity of conscience," he said. Anwar also explained about Manhaj Tarjih adopted by Muhammadiyah as a method in solving problems in the religious field.

Muhammadiyah implements Manhaj Tarjih based on the Qur'an and Sunnah and through three approaches, namely Burhani, Bayani, and Irfani. Bayani's approach looks at religious problems in terms of syar'i arguments, then Burhani's approach looks at problems from the point of view of scientific theories. knowledge, and Irfani sees the problem from the sensitivity of conscience. Through that source and approach, in welcoming Eid al-Adha 1442 Hijriah, Muhammadiyah as well as 2020 recommends diverting funds for qurbani to help underprivileged residents affected by COVID-19. Previously, PP Muhammadiyah immediately issued fatwa on the implementation of Eid al-Adha, one of the points of which does not recommend Eid prayers in the field or mosques/mushala in line with the increase in cases of COVID-19 transmission in Indonesia.
