SAR Team Finds 20 KMP Yunicee Life Jackets, 11 People Still Missing

BANYUWANGI - A total of 20 life jackets belonging to the Passenger Motor Ship (KMP) Yunicee were found by the joint SAR team while searching for victims of the ship that sank in the waters of the Bali Strait.

In addition to the life jacket, which had the words KMP Yunicee Surabaya written on it, the SAR team also found a tire buoy and a ship safety device while sailing (ILR).

"We found this life jacket and ILR as well as the floating tire today in the south of Gilimanuk Port, Jembrana, Bali, about 7 miles from the location of the KMP Yunicee sinking", said Head of the Tanjung Wangi Class III Harbormaster and Port Authority (KSOP) Office, Banyuwangi Marine Lt. Col. Benjamin Ginting, in Banyuwangi quoted by Antara, Wednesday, June 30.

When the life jackets and life jackets and one ILR belonging to KMP Yunicee were found, he continued, they were scattered in the middle of the sea and the SAR team tried to collect them one by one and brought them to land.

Ginting confirmed that the life jacket and two pieces of safety equipment for the ship belonged to KMP Yunicee, considering that the items found contained the name of the ferry that sank on the night of Tuesday, June 29.

"It is certain that this life jacket belongs to KMP Yunicee because it has a name. So, every life jacket must match the name of the ship", he said.

Because several life jackets were found with the hooks open, according to Ginting, some of the life jackets were likely used by the ship's passengers.

"There are some that have been opened, and seeing the condition they have been used", added Ginting.

Until the second day of the sinking of KMP Yunicee which contained 57 passengers, including crew members, the joint SAR team had found 39 passengers in a safe condition, seven passengers died, and 11 other passengers were still missing.
