Government Will Implement Emergency PPKM Java-Bali, Jokowi: Today Finalizes Study

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the government is currently finalizing the policy plan for the Implementation of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

This policy was taken after there was a massive increase in COVID-19 cases in Java and Bali.

"Today there is a finalization of the study, because the spike is very high and we hope it will be completed, because it is chaired by Mr. Airlangga, Mr. Coordinating Minister for Economics, to decide the implementation of Emergency PPKM," said Jokowi when opening the National Deliberation (Munas VIII Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) ) Indonesia in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Wednesday, June 30.

However, Jokowi did not specify what rules will be applied in this policy and how long it will take to implement it. He only hopes that the finalization of the Emergency PPKM study can be completed soon.

"I don't know if the decision will be a week or two. Because we already know all the maps, especially Java and Bali," he said.

"We hope that it will be completed (finalization of the Emergency PPKM study, ed)," added Jokowi.

Previously reported, Spokesperson for the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Jodi Mahardi said that President Jokowi had appointed Luhut Binsar Panjaitan as the Emergency PPKM Coordinator for Java and Bali. The government, he said, was concluding the formula for the tightening measures to be taken.

The essential sector, said Jodi, will continue to operate for a shorter duration. "Supermarkets, malls, and other essential sectors will continue to operate with shortened operating hours and strict procedures," said Jodi.

He asked residents not to panic about this Emergency PPKM plan. "Please don't panic with the news circulating in the WhatsApp group," added Jodi.
