BANYUWANGI - A landslide hit two houses in Pakel Village, Banyuwangi, East Java. The landslide occurred while residents were sleeping in the early hours of the morning.

As a result of the landslide, a teenager named Ardi (16) was found dead. Meanwhile, his grandmother is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

"This morning the victim was buried, along with the residents and the TNI-Police", said the Military District Commander of Licin District, Peltu Agus Sugiarto at the scene, Thursday, June 17.

Agus said the victim was found dead and still wearing a blanket.

"So this victim slept with his grandmother. His grandmother was half buried, while the deceased was found dead still wearing a blanket", he said.

Agus explained that the landslide occurred after heavy rains in Licin District since Wednesday, June 16 afternoon.

At the time of the landslide, the entire victim's family had fallen asleep.

Then at around 02.00 a.m WIB, suddenly a rumbling sound was heard and woke the victim's family.

"The residents next to the house then asked for help from the residents. Then an evacuation was carried out with makeshift equipment", said Agus.

Currently, a number of officers and residents are still cleaning the landslide material.
