The Surge In COVID-19 Patients At Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital Is Unstoppable, Dr. Reisa: It's No Use Crying Over Spilt Milk

JAKARTA - Government Spokesperson Reisa Broto Asmoro reminded the public about the surge in COVID-19 cases at Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital (RSDC) for COVID-19, Kemayoran, Jakarta.

“Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital recorded a very drastic increase in patients. A few days ago, more than 80 percent of the available beds were occupied by positive patients who were quarantined", Reisa said at an online press conference from the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Wednesday, June 16.

Due to the surge in patients, the COVID-19 Handling Task Force has increased the bed capacity at Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital by 2.000 units.

Even though it has been added, said Reisa, the bed occupancy rate at the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital continues to increase due to the soaring number of COVID-19 patients. As of this Wednesday, the occupancy of beds at the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital has exceeded 75 percent.

"As of this morning, the report from Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital stated that there were 488 positive confirmed people who had just entered for treatment after a few days ago there were 625 patients who came together in one day", she said.

Reisa said the government had predicted a significant increase in COVID-19 cases when the homecoming ban on Eid 2021 was not noticed by the public.

"It's no use crying over spilt milk, the warning has become a reality before our eyes", she said.

To prevent the transmission of COVID-19, Reisa appealed to the public to do more activities at home when the school holiday period arrives in the middle of this year. The public is also advised to comply with 3M health protocols (wear masks, maintain distance and wash hands).

“I know the temptation is great, but avoid taking a vacation without careful planning. Note that several districts/cities are in the red zone, meaning that the transmission rate in the community in that area is very high", she said
