JAKARTA - The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) has urged the Attorney General's Office to appeal the decision of the DKI Jakarta High Court which reduced the sentence of Pinangki prosecutor Sirna Malasari to four years.

"To get a sense of justice, I urge the Attorney General's Office to appeal as a last resort", said MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Tuesday, June 15.

The appeal is to provide a sense of justice to the people who are disappointed with the decision of the DKI Jakarta High Court by reducing the sentence from ten years to four years.

He further said that the decision by the DKI Jakarta High Court was the same as injuring the sense of justice in the country.

Because, as a prosecutor who understands the law and should have arrested Djoko Soegiarto Tjandra alias Djoko Tjandra, Pinangki instead tried to help his crime.

MAKI's encouragement to the Attorney General's Office to carry out a cassation was also based on the money laundering process carried out by the Pinangki Prosecutor and had not been fully completed.

The case involving the Pinangki prosecutor not only received gratuities but also committed the crime of money laundering.

"With the practice of money laundering, Pinangki should have received a much higher penalty", he said.

However, in principle, MAKI still respects the court's decision whether guilty or acquitted, reduced or increased. In this case, MAKI assessed that the decision of the Central Jakarta Corruption Court was correct, where the judge sentenced Pinangki to ten years in prison.

The DKI Jakarta High Court (PT) has reduced the sentence of Pinangki prosecutor Sirna Malasari from ten years to four years in prison in cases of accepting bribes, conspiracy, and money laundering.

There were several considerations by the panel of judges that reduced Pinangki's sentence by more than half. The defendant pleaded guilty and regretted his actions and has agreed to be dismissed from his profession as a prosecutor, therefore he can still be expected to behave as a good citizen.

Another consideration for the defendant is that the mother of a child who is still a toddler (four years old) deserves the opportunity to care for and give love to her child in his growing period.
