JAKARTA - Member of the House of Representatives Commission I, Rizki Sadig, said the COVID-19 pandemic has limited the space for the world of education. Although on the other hand information technology is actually developing very rapidly.

According to him, online distance learning has taken many people by surprise. Not only between teachers and students, but also actors in the world of education, school owners, teachers, and curriculum makers.

"In addition, parents are in a position who are also shocked by this situation and have to make adjustments. I think this is an opportunity for all, maybe it is necessary to organize a curriculum that is no longer about the question of how the teaching and learning process is carried out where students must memorize, students must understand by taking notes, and so on," he said.

He said that in some developed countries students were given the freedom to choose subjects according to their interests and desires. Because actually the teaching and learning process is not only a matter of theoretical problems, but understanding what is being learned, being trained to understand and adapt to their interests from kindergarten.

"That they are asked to direct their interests and talents, not to force the growth and development of every human child, which cannot be forced by regular classrooms," he said.

Rizki assessed that children should be educated to socialize with the world which is developing so rapidly today. Then socialize with the international world, socialize with the world that is not in one particular space.

"I think this is also our homework, especially the government and actors in the world of education," he said.
