Aceh Ricuh Peace Day, Mass Removal of the Red and White Flag at the Governor's Palace

BANDA ACEH - The mass action in commemoration of Aceh Peace Day on Saturday, August 15, 2026, heated up again after the Zuhur prayer. The mass, which had previously gathered in the area of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, moved towards Meuligoe Governor of Aceh before continuing their journey to the Aceh DPR Building.

The mass, which was originally centered around the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, then split up. Some of the masses still stayed in the mosque area, while other groups moved towards the Aceh Governor's Pendopo.

Upon arrival at the Aceh Governor's Palace, the crowd entered the office yard. They then removed the Red and White flag that was installed at the location and replaced it with the Star Moon flag.

The action continued to the porch of the pendopo. The crowd removed the Garuda emblem that was attached to the building. The national emblem was then tied with a cloth or a red and white flag and taken out until it was dragged on the streets.

The situation got hotter when the crowd passed in front of the Kodim. The Garuda emblem, which had previously been removed from the Aceh Governor's Palace, was carried by the crowd and trampled before passing through the area.

Based on temporary information, five people were secured by the police in the riots. The five were then released.

Meanwhile, three other people are reported to be undergoing treatment at the hospital due to the incident.

On the other hand, the Crescent Moon flag that was previously installed at the gate of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque has been lowered in the afternoon.

The joint security apparatus is still carrying out security at a number of points and escorting the mass movement route to prevent the situation from heating up again.
