67 Thugs Who Used To Act At The Port To The East Java Terminal Were Arrested

SURABAYA - The East Java Police Ditreskrimum Team arrested as many as 67 thugs from various regions in East Java. These thugs used to carry out extortion and extortion at ports, terminals, and container truck bases.

"Dozens of thugs were arrested from Surabaya's Tanjung Perak Port, Purabaya Terminal in Sidoarjo, truck or bus bases in Gresik, Sidoarjo and Mojokerto," said Head of Public Relations of the East Java Police, Kombes Gatot Repli Handoko, at the East Java Police Headquarters, Monday, June 14.

Kombes Gatot said that the thugs used various modus operandi. Starting from coercion with violence, bullying, to become brokers by increasing bus fares up to 400 percent.

According to Kombes Gatot, the perpetrators became brokers so that the extortion was carried out so that it would not be seen that his actions were burglary.

"So, these thugs print fake tickets, similar to parking tickets. They print them themselves, camouflage as if it's legal. That includes extortion," said Gatot.

Regarding the leader of the group of thugs, Gatot ensured that the police would continue to investigate. The police will continue to take action against thugs.

From the arrest of the perpetrator, the police confiscated a number of pieces of evidence. These include sharp weapons, Rp 9.5 million in cash, 3 cars, 1 motorbike, 69 bundles of extortion tickets, three deposit books and up to 10 cell phones.

These thugs were charged with Article 49 in conjunction with Article 17 of the East Java Regional Regulation Number 2 of 2020 regarding the amendment to the East Java Regional Regulation Number 1 of 2019 concerning the implementation of Peace, Order and Community Protection. The threat is three months in prison or a fine of IDR 50 million.
