JAKARTA - The government through the Deputy Minister of Religion (Wamenag) Romo Muhammad Syafi'i asked the public not to rush to associate the explosion incident involving a student at MAN 3 Padang with radicalism, considering that the cause of the incident must be thoroughly investigated.
"Events like what happened at MAN 3 Padang must be thoroughly investigated. Don't rush to conclude what the trigger was until the event happened," said Wamenag Romo M Syafi'i, quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 16.
The Minister of Religion, Romo Syafii, explained that experience in a number of previous cases showed that initial suspicions were not always in accordance with the results of the investigation.
He gave an example of the explosion in Jakarta which was initially linked to radicalism, but after being investigated, it was actually triggered by the psychological problems of the perpetrators. Therefore, he asked all parties to wait for the results of the investigation by law enforcement and not to build opinions based on suspicions or unverified information.
On the other hand, the Minister of Home Affairs assessed that the incident should be a momentum to strengthen protection for children, including preventing bullying practices in the educational environment.
According to him, handling the issue of bullying has become a serious concern of the government through cross-ministerial and inter-agency coordination under the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK).
The government has also formed a Task Force (Satgas) for Handling Bullying involving various Ministries and Institutions (K/L).
"Handling bullying is a shared responsibility. Therefore, the government is building cross-sector synergy through the National Movement for Safe and Comfortable Children's Space (Gernas RANA) so that every child is protected from all forms of violence and bullying," said Deputy Minister of Religion Romo Syafi'i.
He said the RANA Task Force and Gernas were focused on creating a safe and comfortable space for children, both in the home environment, educational units, public spaces, and digital spaces.
The Minister of Religion emphasized that schools must be a safe place for all students. In addition to enforcing rules, bullying prevention also requires strengthening character education, parental, teacher, and community care, as well as support services for children.
"This must be our common concern so that schools really become a safe, comfortable, and supportive space for students to grow and develop in preparing for their future," said Deputy Minister of Religion Romo M Syafi'i.
