JAKARTA - The Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-Terror Police revealed that the alleged perpetrator of the explosion case at MAN 3 Padang, West Sumatra, was a 17-year-old student.

Spokesperson for the Densus 88 Anti-Terror Police, Kombes Mayndra Eka Wardhana, said the incident began when school security officers found what was suspected to be an improvised bomb in the school environment.

"From the initial examination at the location, officers secured a number of items, including a black box, a black bag, a mobile phone, firecrackers, knives, arrows, marbles, bolts, and several other items," Mayndra said in his statement, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 14.

Based on these findings, the school reported it to the police. The police then arrested a student with the initials R (17) who, based on the results of the initial investigation, was suspected of being the owner of the items.

During the examination, R admitted that he had learned how to make explosives through online media and was inspired by the bomb incident at State High School 72 Jakarta in 2025.

"The alleged perpetrator also admitted that he had joined a number of online groups that discussed the manufacture of explosives. All of these confessions are still in the process of verification and further investigation by law enforcement," said Mayndra.

In addition, the police are still investigating the identity of the party who is suspected of being the target of the planned action.

Mayndra ensured that there were no casualties or injuries in the explosion.

Currently, all items suspected to belong to the alleged perpetrator have been secured as evidence for further investigation.
