MATARAM - The West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTB) took over the handling of the case of three burned students in Central Lombok from the Central Lombok Police as a follow-up to the recommendation of the DPR Commission III Hearing (RDP).

The NTB Police Chief, Inspector General Kalingga Rendra Raharja, said the takeover was carried out in accordance with the recommendations made in the DPR Commission III RDP on Monday (13/7).

"As explained in the RDP in Commission III of the DPR RI, I as the Police Chief was asked to take over the case and the team had returned. We will immediately follow up on the recommendations of Commission III," he said as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 14.

The Police Chief also ensured that his party would follow up on the recommendations regarding the evaluation of the members' performance in handling the case.

"Of course we will take firm steps in the near future. Hopefully it can be completed. I will immediately convey the development," he said.

Previously, the Central Lombok Police had named two suspects in the case which had entered the investigation stage.

The two are AMR (55), the head of the pesantren where the incident occurred, and MR (15), the victim's older brother who is suspected of causing three students to burn.

Both suspects were charged with Article 359 or Article 360 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 474 paragraphs (2) and (3) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.

The case occurred at a pesantren in Central Lombok in November 2025 and began to be investigated after the victim's family reported it in June 2026.

In the incident, Ahmad Deven Ramdan (14) and Sahid Al Hudri (12) suffered serious burns, while NSS (13) died after undergoing medical treatment.

During the investigation, the police have examined 20 witnesses, including criminal experts and medical experts, and collected evidence from the results of the crime scene.
