TANJUNG SELOR - Member of the North Kalimantan Regional Representative Council (Dapil) Dedy Yevri Hanteru Sitorus revealed that the quota for the Indonesia Smart Program (PIP) for Kaltara has decreased in the last two years, due to the impact of central government budget efficiency policies.
However, he ensured that he would continue to fight for the education assistance to be accepted by the community in the area.
This was conveyed by Deddy when he symbolically handed over the Indonesia Smart Program (PIP) to the beneficiary students at SD 014 Tanjung Selor, Bulungan Regency.
"The PIP allocation that we have previously successfully fought for Kaltara ranges from 8,000 to 10,000 recipients each year. However, due to budget efficiency, the number has dropped to around 2,500 recipients," said Deddy Sitorus, Monday, July 13.
He explained, in the first phase of distribution this year in Bulungan Regency, the quota that was successfully fought for for state and private elementary school students reached around 389 recipients.
"PIP is obtained not automatically, but through a process of proposal and coordination with the central government. Moreover, Kaltara does not have a representative in Commission X of the DPR RI which is a partner of the Ministry of Education, so more efforts are needed so that the region continues to receive allocation of assistance," said Deddy, who is also a PDIP politician.
"This program must be fought for. We must lobby so that North Kalimantan continues to get PIP quotas," he continued.
Deddy explained that his party was trying to provide educational assistance through the Ministry of Religion for madrasah and pesantren students.
"We also received a commitment to distribute the Kuliah Smart Indonesian Card (KIP) for about 70 students from Kaltara," he said.
Dedy reminded that PIP recipients were determined based on criteria that had been determined by the government through community welfare data. Therefore, not all students can receive the assistance. In addition, PIP is a state budget sourced from community taxes so it must be used responsibly to support the sustainability of the education of the beneficiary children.
He also asked parents to use PIP funds in accordance with their provisions, namely to meet the needs of children's education, such as school supplies, uniforms, books, and other learning support needs.
"Use this assistance for the benefit of our children. Even though the value is not large, if it is used properly it will greatly help their education," he said.
