Police Clean Up Extortion And Thugs, Promise Not Only JICT Tanjung Priok

JAKARTA - The National Police has confirmed that it will eradicate acts of thuggery, especially illegal levies (extortion) that occur in the community. In fact, the eradication is not only focused on the port, but all identified locations.

"Not only ports, but also in other places where extortion or extortion like that occurs, we will take action," said the Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Argo Yuwono in his statement, Friday, June 11.

This action is a direct direction of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Because at that time, Jokowi received complaints from truck drivers who were often victims of extortion.

So, at that time, the National Police Chief immediately ordered all his staff to eradicate thuggery.

"Asop Kapolri finally gave instructions, gave directions to all ranks throughout Indonesia to carry out operations against thuggery," he said.

"This is the main task of the National Police, we have also sent letters to the Regional Police," continued Argo.

So far, the Metro Jaya Police have arrested 49 people suspected of extortion and extortion in the Tanjung Priok JICT area. In fact, development continues to be carried out to eradicate this illegal act.

"The modus operandi of the thugs was to ask the driver for a tip of Rp. 10,000 to Rp. 20,000," said Argo.
