LIMA PULUH KOTA - The Elidan Cultural Center in Harau District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra, is projected to become a space for the development of art as well as the regeneration of Minangkabau culture at the community level.

The facility, which is located in the Rumah Sawiyah area, was inaugurated by the Minister of Culture Fadli Zon during a working visit to his hometown, Friday (19/6).

Unlike a regular meeting hall, the Elidan Cultural Hall is prepared as a center for community cultural activities. Starting from randai, traditional dances, proverbs, gandang, poetry, theater, drama, to pencak silat.

According to Fadli, the biggest challenge in preserving culture is not only to keep the tradition alive, but to ensure that the tradition continues to be practiced and passed on to the next generation.

Therefore, he hopes that various cultural activities can run routinely and community-based.

"The Elidan Cultural Center still needs programs that are managed sustainably. Art and cultural activities need to have a regular schedule so that this space really comes to life," said Fadli.

The Elidan Cultural Center has previously been used for various community activities, including capacity building for ninik mamak, bundo kanduang, and nagari customary activities.

Fadli emphasized that support for the development of art and culture is part of the shared responsibility to preserve regional cultural heritage.

According to Fadli, cultural spaces like this are important because they are places where people's knowledge, traditions, and creativity meet.

Member of the West Sumatra DPRD Nurcholis appreciated the presence of this facility. According to him, the construction of the Elidan Cultural Center is a concrete step in strengthening the cultural activities of the local community.

In the future, the Ministry of Culture will complete a number of supporting facilities so that the function of the cultural hall is more optimal.

One of the things that was prepared was a library containing a collection of books on art, culture, history, and Minangkabau customs.

With this development, the Elidan Cultural Center is expected not only to be a place for activities, but also a cultural learning center for the community and the younger generation.

In the midst of increasingly strong modernization, the existence of community-based cultural spaces is considered to be one way to keep local knowledge and traditions alive in the community.
