Eri Cahyadi Harvests 72 Kilograms Of Rice At Taman Surya Surabaya

SURABAYA - In accordance with the Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) program related to food sovereignty in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi harvested rice at the Surya Park, Surabaya City Hall.

A total of 18 fiber tubs, located in Taman Surya Surabaya, are of various types with a size of 6 square meters. Eri Cahyadi said that urban farming aims to maintain food sovereignty. He said that this effort is important to do to maintain the sustainability of food security in the City of Heroes. Especially in the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"In Taman Surya this is a pilot, so you don't have to have a large area to grow crops. Then the most important thing is that the sustainable food in our city is guaranteed," said Eri Cahyadi.

He explained, for the development of rice cultivation in the fiber tub, it will continue to be developed and expanded throughout the city of Surabaya. Because, to wait for the harvest was only about three months. In fact, not only that, later, the ranks of the Food and Agriculture Security Service (DKPP) will coordinate residents who have grown rice to help connect with consumers.

"Usually residents also use it for food security at home. For big farmers, he can sell it himself. For what I harvest, the estimated total grain is around 72.3 kilograms. Each fiber produces 4 kilograms of grain on average and the amount of fiber is 18, " he said.

Eri Cahyadi hopes that residents who do not have large areas of land can cultivate rice plants. Not only rice plants, he also explained that the types were very diverse. Starting from chilies, tomatoes to watercress and much more.

Meanwhile, Head of the Department of Food and Agriculture Security (DKPP), Yuniarto Herlambang added, if people are interested, they are welcome to come to DKPP by filling out the form first, then they can take the seeds home.

"We use varieties for rice, because they are stronger pests and suitable for limited land. Apart from rice seeds, we also provide seeds for other hydroponic plants," he said.
