JAKARTA - An albino buffalo nicknamed 'Donald Trump' has been returned to his farm after Bangladeshi officials intervened to stop his slaughter plans on Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah, local media reported.
The buffalo, which was raised on a farm near the capital Dhaka, has become a viral attraction in recent weeks for its blonde fur and its resemblance to US President Donald Trump's signature hairstyle.
Crowds gathered daily to take photos of the nearly 700-kilogram (over 1,500-pound) animal, which went viral on social media and international news outlets.
The animal was sold to a buyer to be sacrificed during the Eid al-Adha in Bangladesh, which is majority Muslim.
But local broadcaster Channel 24 reported that the Ministry of the Interior asked authorities to stop the slaughter after the popularity of the buffaloes soared across the country, Anadolu reported (27/5).

The buffalo was then returned to the farm where he was raised. However, officials did not publicly explain the reasons for the intervention.
The owner of the farm, Ziauddin Mridha, previously said the animal was named 'Donald Trump' by his younger brother because of a pale hair on his forehead. He described the buffalo as calm and said albino buffalo are rarely found in Bangladesh, where most are dark.
The buffalo has become one of the country's most talked-about attractions, with visitors coming from far and wide to see the animal ahead of the holiday.
Sacrificial animals that go viral with names inspired by celebrities have increasingly become part of the culture of the Iduladha livestock market in Bangladesh in recent years.
