The Discourse Of Megawati-Prabowo Pair In 2024 Presidential Election, Tjahjo Kumolo: Wait For The D Day

JAKARTA - PDI-P politician Tjahjo Kumolo does not want to speculate about the possible pairing of Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 Presidential Election. He asked the public to wait for the right information regarding the candidate that will be carried by the party bearing the bull symbol.

"You can't make assumptions. Just wait for the D Day," said Tjahjo at the DPR Complex, Tuesday, June 8.

He explained, in accordance with Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections, the nomination of pairs of presidential and vice-presidential candidates came from political parties or a combination of political parties. So, anyone who will run in the 2024 presidential election must get the support of political parties.

"The submission of a candidate pair according to the law is the right and authority of a political party or a combination of political parties. See the law is still like that, now people want to be cross-eyed, want to be popular, the key is to be supported by political parties or a combination of political parties or not. Because this is the domain of political parties to determine who is a presidential candidate. There are independent regional heads," said the Minister for Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform (Menpan RB).

PDIP, continued Tjahjo, has also not yet decided who will be promoted in the 2024 presidential election. However, based on his experience, PDIP cannot determine its own candidate because it must form a coalition with other parties.

"The requirements can be one party or a combination of political parties. When I was the chairman of Mr. Jokowi's (2014) team, it was necessary to combine parties, namely NasDem and Hanura, yesterday (2019) added a lot. If the parties are confident, they meet the requirements, that's fine. If not enough, it can be a combination of political parties," he said.

The Mega-Prabowo pair never existed in the 2009 election. They fought the SBY-Boediono pair with serial number 2 and JK-Wiranto with serial number 3.

The Mega-Prabowo pair was promoted by the PDIP and Gerindra Party, and was supported by the Sovereignty Party, the Work of Struggle Party, PNI Marhaenisme, the Labor Party, the Sarikat Indonesia Party, and the Merdeka Party.

Pair number 1 lost to the SBY-Boediono pair. Mega-Prabowo received 26.79 percent of the vote; SBY-Boediono got 60.80 percent of the votes; and JK-Wiranto received 12.41 percent of the vote.
