PDIP Crown Princess Status, Puan Maharani: That Doesn't Mean The Red Carpet Is Ready

JAKARTA - PDI-P politician Puan Maharani admits that she has never interfered in the affairs of the general chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri. Even though Mega is her biological mother, Puan claims to be obedient to orders as a party official.

"Personally, I am very close to the general chairman. But I have never then forced the chairman or whispered to the chairman, it has to be like this, it has to be like that. The party's business is my headmaster," said Puan, Tuesday, June 8.

Puan said that as a bull cadre, she would provide input if asked by the leader. However, he never recommended that his input be accepted as Megawati's decision.

"I want to cry too, 'why mom, why did you choose that' or not. I still, yes, if it's a decision like this, I'll go with it," he said.

Puan emphasized that she would never force her if her input was not in accordance with Megawati's wishes. Even though she is Megawati's daughter. Until finally, he himself learned that the leader must go directly to the field.

"The leader must be together with the people, and it can't just be a red carpet because of ketum," he said.

The chairman of the DPR does not deny that he gets various kinds of facilities because he is the son of the general chairman of the PDIP.

"Of course there are conveniences but it's not a red carpet prepared," he said.

However, said Puan, like the other cadres, he still had to go down. He even visited every election in Central Java in 35 regencies/cities.

"It's like I want to run for the regional head election. I campaign everywhere. In the base areas I invite the mother ketum to come. Because whatever Central Java is based on PDIP, we have to protect the bull's cage," he explained.

Puan emphasized that even though she was the current crown princess, her political career had to be built. He also had to work hard to win and succeed, especially at that time the PDIP was not as solid as it is now.

"Don't think it's a red carpet for me. I've never known how to campaign to become a legislative candidate. Make a team, who is the team, choose which team you want. In the end, I did, I became a candidate, entered the candidate," he said.

"It's not like now, it was still a new party in '98, it's still crawling how to organize, manage parties and so on. It's not like it's solid now. As soon as the instructions come down from above, we all know what the mechanism is," said Puan.
