DKI Provincial Government Selects Rasuna Said as the Stage for the 499th Anniversary of Jakarta

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will start the series of the 499th Anniversary of the City of Jakarta by holding a groundbreaking in the corridor of Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, on May 9-10, 2026.

The Provincial Government chose the Rasuna Said area not without reason. The business corridor is now positioned as a new face of Jakarta which is being directed to become a global city. The area is also one of the points with the highest economic activity and mobility in the capital.

Assistant to the Economy and Finance of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Secretary, Suharini Eliawati, said the Rasuna Said area was considered to represent the transformation of Jakarta today, ranging from business centers, diplomacy, to vertical residential areas.

"We can imagine the excitement of this activity with the support of 30 embassies, 15 ministries and agencies, as well as more than 200 private office buildings, shopping centers, hospitals, and vertical residences. This big collaboration will present a new face of Jakarta in various aspects of life," said Suharini at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Thursday, May 7.

The inauguration of the 499th anniversary of Jakarta will be packaged with a concept of a blend of Betawi culture and modern urban life. The DKI Provincial Government has also begun to confirm the direction of the celebration towards Jakarta's five-century age, which falls next year.

According to Suharini, this year's celebration is not only an annual ceremony, but also an effort to show Jakarta's new identity after no longer bearing the status of the capital of the country in full.

"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared various creative concepts that can be enjoyed by all communities. We present sports activities, Betawi art, to the grand closing ceremony. We want all residents to attend to enliven this activity," he said.

A number of agendas have been prepared in the inauguration. One of them is the "Healthy and Fit Rasuna" activity in the form of a mass gymnastics held by the DKI Jakarta Youth and Sports Office.

In addition, there is a "Listen to Betawi Nearby" performance which presents Betawi lenong as part of cultural reflection ahead of Jakarta's 499th anniversary.

Meanwhile, at the peak of the event entitled "Spekta Jakarta", the public will be presented with a dialogue with the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung and the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno, accompanied by the performance of a number of national musicians.
