JAKARTA - The government continues to accelerate and strengthen the eradication of tuberculosis (TB). Various strategic programs have been carried out by the government, one of which is by initiating treatment for TB patients.

Head of the Indonesian Communication Agency (Bakom) Muhammad Qodari said that until May 3, 2026, the discovery of TB cases was recorded at more than 241,000 with treatment initiation reaching 84 percent of the national target of 95 percent. Treatment success reached 80 percent of the target of 90 percent.

"The discovery of cases (TB) is more than 241,000 cases. Treatment initiation is 84% of the target of 95%. And treatment success is 80% of the target of 90%," Qodari said at a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, May 6.

This step confirms the government's commitment to reducing the number of TB cases, considering that Indonesia is still one of the countries with the highest TB cases in the world.

Qodari explained that one form of strengthening TB disease screening is by integrating it through the Free Health Check (CKG) program organized by the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) since the beginning of 2025. Then, the government also provides Near Point of Care (nPOC) and X-Ray equipment at health centers as a form of capacity building.

Then, to accelerate the increase in TB program achievements in 2026, the government carried out repairs to 8,000 TB patient houses in high-caseload areas. This program aims to break the chain of transmission while creating a healthy living environment to accelerate the healing process for patients.

"The government targets the repair of 8,000 TB patient houses in high-caseload priority areas. And this has increased from 300 houses per year in 2020 to 2023," said Qodari.

"A total of 5,453 houses have been proposed (for repair) through the SIBARU application. A habitable house is the first line of defense against TB transmission," he added.

Efforts to prevent and treat TB are also strengthened through the empowerment of 6,484 TB-ready villages and sub-districts spread across 23 provinces.
