JAKARTA - The Ministry of Culture announced the winners of the SINEMA 2026 Screenwriting Competition in the 76th National Film Day at the Plaza Insan Berprestasi, Jakarta, Monday (20/4). This event is used by the government to encourage the birth of strong historical film scenarios in terms of research, but still live as a story.
Carrying the theme "Our Story, the Strength of the Nation", SINEMA 2026 is focused on developing historical-based scripts in Indonesia with various perspectives on heroism. Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said that films must be placed as cultural infrastructure, especially in the midst of a global content flood.
"In the midst of the heavy flow of global content, we must place films as a solid cultural infrastructure," said Fadli.
He emphasized that the quality of a film cannot be separated from the strength of the script. Therefore, the government wants to strengthen the upstream production of films by encouraging the birth of scriptwriters who are able to process history into a narrative that is relevant to the public.
According to Fadli, the government will also encourage the writing of children's film scenarios to prepare a script bank while opening up space for the birth of new script writers.
Director of Film, Music, and Art Irini Dewi Wanti said SINEMA 2026 managed to capture hundreds of works from various regions, with the participation of the younger generation. This finding shows that interest in historical stories through the medium of film is still strong.
For the short film category, the first place was won by Gerbong Maut by Dhony Fachri Wibawa from DI Yogyakarta. Second place was won by Tuang Yosep by Mariemon Simon Setiawan from East Nusa Tenggara. Third place was won by Bayangan Dalam Asa by Herlambang Irdiansyah.
In the long film category, the first place was won by Kapalselam Kalibayam by Tito Imanda from Central Java. Second place was won by Pertaruhan Sunyi by Suharso from Central Java. Third place was won by Mardijker: Panggung Kematian by Satria Sunanda from South Kalimantan.
In the same event, the Ministry of Culture also introduced Fauzan Zidni as the General Chairman of the Indonesian Film Agency (BPI) for the period 2026-2029. This step is aimed at strengthening the national film institution and encouraging closer cooperation between the government and industry players.
Through SINEMA 2026, the Ministry of Culture seems to want to rearrange the national film industry. This event shows that the government's attention does not stop at film production, but also on the preparation of scripts as the basis of the story.
