Mahfud MD: Revengeful And Fearful Corruptors Unite Against KPK

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said that currently corruptors are uniting to weaken the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

They are called Mahfud united because of revenge and fear that their corruption will be exposed.

This was conveyed in the 'Dialogue of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs: Developments in the Actual Political, Legal and Security Situation' which was broadcast on Gadjah Mada University's YouTube. At that time, he said he supported the anti-corruption commission.

However, this is different from the corruptors who hold grudges against the KPK and seek to weaken this institution in any way.

"I have great respect for these children but everyone feels that they have other data, maybe the true corruptors who have a grudge, the corruptors who have not been caught but are afraid of being caught, are now fighting together," Mahfud said at the event as quoted on Monday, 7 June.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the weakening experienced by the KPK was not the fault of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). According to Mahfud, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta has repeatedly tried to stop this weakening, one of which is by issuing a Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) after the revision of the KPK Law.

However, this effort failed because it was opposed by the DPR RI and political parties. "When the President (will, ed) issue a Perppu for the law, it will hit the right and left. That the DPR does not agree, his party does not agree," he said.

"How about issuing a Perppu and then it is rejected. It means that the game is not easy," added the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).

Even so, he asked all parties not to doubt their commitment to strengthening the anti-corruption commission. This reason made him hope that from the dialogue that was held, academics could provide the best input for the anti-corruption commission in the future.

"I am the same as the community. I support the KPK, it must be strong," he concluded.
