JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta DPRD member Riano P. Ahmad responded to Governor Pramono Anung's policy which prohibits ondel-ondel from being misused for street hawking.
He assessed that this practice was carried out by many immigrants who did not understand the value of the ondel-ondel culture as a Betawi icon. Riano revealed that the findings were obtained from the results of investigations and monitoring carried out in the field.
"After we investigate and monitor, most of these ondel-ondel street performers who come to Jakarta are not people from Jakarta," Riano told reporters, Monday, April 13.

Previously, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung emphasized that the practice of ondel-ondel was prohibited for use as a means of street entertainment. The ban was taken because the government wanted to restore the function of ondel-ondel as a Betawi cultural icon that was displayed properly, not as a means of making money on the street.

"In places like that, I ask for the time when the satpol pp prohibits it. Regarding sanctions, which I think have not yet come into effect. But what is clear is that it will definitely be banned," added Pramono.
