JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is committed to helping improve facilities and encourage community capacity building in developing Betawi culture while strengthening the economy of residents.

Therefore, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno hopes that the public can continue to be creative, including creating a typical Betawi batik motif that represents the journey of the capital city of five centuries.

"Initiatives like this are important. As a global city, Jakarta must not forget its cultural roots. It is precisely from this cultural wealth that the identity of this city grows and is inherited. Culture is not just a heritage, but a spirit that gives meaning to every development in Jakarta," said Rano, quoted by Antara.

Rano had the opportunity to attend the launch of the Betawi Batik typical of Sukapura at the Betawi Sukapura Cultural Village, Cilincing, North Jakarta, Friday (10/4). He also assessed that the existence of cultural areas, such as the Betawi Sukapura Cultural Village, has an important role in maintaining traditions.

He appealed for batik training to continue to be added, including the development of techniques, such as eco print.

"This batik activity can support the residents here. Therefore, I appeal for it to be further developed," said Rano.

He also hopes that the typical Sukapura Betawi Batik will not only be known in Jakarta, but also be able to penetrate the national and international markets.

For this reason, collaboration between the government, artisans, business actors, cultural activists, and young generations must continue to be strengthened so that cultural heritage is increasingly developed and proud.

On that occasion, Rano also appreciated the art performance of residents, including children. He is optimistic that through continuous training, they can perform in a wider public space.
