SURABAYA - The East Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jatim) has started implementing the Work From Home (WFH) policy for State Civil Servants (ASN) every Wednesday starting in early April 2026 for energy efficiency and maintaining productivity.

"Starting next week, WFH will be held on Wednesdays. So Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday we work in person. This WFH system we implement in line with the fuel and energy saving policy from the central government," said East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 25.

Khofifah emphasized that the implementation of WFH was not a form of work relaxation, but a flexible work mechanism that still requires discipline, responsibility, and high productivity from all ASN.

"With the WFH system, public services must not be reduced. In fact, performance must remain optimal and coordination must be stronger. Certain public service sectors still enter fully," he said.

He explained that WFH was chosen over Work From Anywhere (WFA) because it was considered more effective in maintaining ASN productivity, while allowing family support in monitoring the implementation of work from home.

In addition, Wednesday was chosen as the time for WFH because it was considered ideal in maintaining the rhythm of work and suppressing the potential for an increase in fuel consumption.

Based on calculations, the average ASN of the East Java Provincial Government travels a distance of about 14 kilometers to the office or about 28 kilometers round trip every day, so that the one-day WFH scheme in a week is expected to increase energy efficiency.

"If WFH is carried out on Friday, there is a tendency for long holidays, even going home, recreation and other activities that consume more fuel because it continues with the long weekend," he said.

Governor Khofifah emphasized that this policy must not reduce the quality of public services, with strict supervision from the Regional Personnel Agency (BKD) on the presence and performance of ASN.

"ASN productivity must not decrease. Public services must continue to run optimally, respond, and without obstacles," he said.

He added that the momentum of Eid al-Fitr was the starting point to strengthen the solidity, solidarity, and commitment of ASN in providing the best service to the community.

"All ASN cadres must return to work with better quality, more professional, more responsible, and more service-oriented," he added.

Governor Khofifah also emphasized that ASN is the front line in ensuring that the community feels safe, served, and cared for by the state.

"There must be no decrease in the rhythm of work after the holidays. This first day is a benchmark for our commitment to maintaining public confidence," he said.

He asked all regional devices to ensure that within the next week all public services will return to 100 percent normal without any service accumulation.
