JAKARTA - The European Union welcomes US President Donald Trump's decision to temporarily suspend attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure for five days, and welcomes "all forms" of self-restraint.

Speaking at a European Commission press conference, Commission spokesman Anouar El Anouni said the bloc supports all efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.

"I will remind you of what our leaders have said - a clear call for de-escalation and maximum self-restraint. Therefore, all forms of self-restraint are welcome," he told reporters as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Monday, March 23.

El Anouni said the EU remained actively engaged diplomatically with regional and international partners to prevent further escalation, noting ongoing contacts with key actors, including Iran and Gulf states.

He stressed that the head of the EU foreign policy, Kaja Kallas, had been in "constant contact" with counterparts across the region, including Turkey, Qatar, and Iran, as part of efforts to address the crisis and promote dialogue.

On Monday, Trump said he had ordered a five-day delay to all attacks on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, citing "very good and productive" talks with Tehran over the weekend.

The US-Israeli attack on Iran began on February 28, with Tehran retaliating with repeated drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting US military assets.
