Update On COVID-19 As Of May 8: Reports Of 13 Provinces With Zero New Cases

JAKARTA - Government spokesman for the handling of COVID-19, Achmad Yurianto explained the progress of the case as of Friday, May 7 at 12.00 WIB. There were additional positive cases as many as 336 patients. Thus, the total number of positive cases became 13,112 people.

Even so, there was good news received. The number of recovered cases has outperformed the death cases. There were an additional 113 patients recovered, bringing the total to 2,494 patients. Meanwhile, 13 patients died, bringing it to 943 patients.

The highest factor that causes patients to die is congenital disease, namely hypertension. Followed by diabetes, heart disease, and lung disease, both asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The distribution of the largest number of cases was in DKI Jakarta with 4,955 positive cases, then West Java 1,404 cases, East Java 1,284 cases, Central Java 933 cases, and South Sulawesi 708 cases.

Another good news, there are some areas that have no new cases added today. "Looking at the data on additional cases of the Ministry of Health, there are 13 provinces in Indonesia that report no new cases added today," Yuri said at a press conference at Graha BNPB, East Jakarta, Friday, May 8.

The provinces are Aceh, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, Jambi, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, South Sumatra, Central Sulawesi, North Maluku, West Papua, East Nusa Tenggara and Gorontalo.

Furthermore, the examination of the corona virus using the saliva specimen test (swab) or Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and rapid molecular test (TCM) has been carried out as many as 143,781 times, with details of PCR examinations totaling 143,453 people and TCM totaling 328 people.

Meanwhile, the number of cases examined was 103,112 people. In detail, the number of people examined by the PCR method were 103,361 and TCM were 184 people.

"Starting yesterday, one lab at Wisma Athlete is based on TCM to check for antigens and we have operated it. We have sent specimens to operate more than 15 other machines scattered throughout Indonesia," Yuri explained.

Then, the addition of the number also occurred in the patient data under surveillance (PDP) with a total of 29,087 people. Meanwhile, the cases of people under monitoring (ODP) increased to 244,480.

"We will speed up the examination for PDP patients by using 2 examination methods, namely PCR and TCM," he concluded.
