Puan asks for anticipation of the impact of the Middle East war for the safety of the 2026 Hajj pilgrims

JAKARTA - Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani, asked all parties to anticipate the impact of the Middle East war ahead of the 2026 hajj. Puan emphasized that this year's hajj must continue to be carried out, provided that the safety of pilgrims is the top priority.

"Regarding the hajj, of course with this global geopolitical situation, whatever problems or things related to the worship must still be carried out as well as possible," said Puan at the DPR building, Thursday, March 12.

"However, we also ask all parties concerned to evaluate and mitigate or anticipate the things that are happening," he continued.

Puan ensured that Commission VIII of the DPR as a partner of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah would conduct an in-depth evaluation and study related to the departure of the 2026 hajj amid the heating of the Iran vs. United States-Israel conflict. He emphasized that the safety of Indonesian pilgrims must be a priority without canceling this year's departure.

"So of course the DPR RI through the relevant commission will do what it is called, studies, evaluations and things that must be done with this situation to be able to provide safety, still provide safety, comfort for Indonesian pilgrims who will later insha Allah continue to carry out their hajibadah," said Puan.
