JAKARTA - The DPP of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) issued a circular letter which contained a reminder that cadres did not take advantage of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program or manage the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG).

The circular was signed by PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto and PDIP DPP Chairman Komarudin Watubun on February 24.

"The PDI-P DPP instructs all Party cadres in the Three Pillars of the Party (Structural, Legislative, and Executive) as follows: It is strictly prohibited, both directly and indirectly, to use the MBG Program to seek financial gains or other forms of material benefits," it is written in the circular letter quoted Friday, February 27.

PDIP, still in the letter, said MBG is a program sourced from the state budget and reallocation of national education budgets. This budget should be used for the benefit of education nationally.

"That the education budget is in fact used to the greatest extent for the benefit of education nationally to educate the nation's life, including among others for the salaries and allowances of teaching staff, the improvement of the capacity and quality of teachers and the provision of educational facilities."

The existence of this circular is confirmed by PDIP politician Guntur Romli. According to him, his party has never agreed if there is a party that seeks profit through the MBG program.

"Yes, the letter is for the party's internal response to confirm that the party has never allowed personal interests to be involved in the MBG 'business'," said Guntur in a separate statement.

"With this ban, the attitude of the Party is very clear. MBG is a government program for the people and in its implementation there must be no commercialization of the people's program," he continued.

Furthermore, the letter also answered allegations that there were party cadres who had MBG kitchens.

"Thus the Party prohibits the involvement of PDI Perjuangan members and cadres in the MBG business."
