JAKARTA - Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi responded to allegations that logging was the trigger for flash floods in the Guci tourist area, Tegal Regency, by stating that the government had prepared follow-up steps through the investigation process.
"There is already an investigation team, there is also, whether it is the provincial government or the district government, I have also coordinated," said Prasetyo as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 18.
He said the Ministry of Forestry had also been asked to conduct a review and evaluation of the condition of forest areas around the Guci tourist site.
The review aims to see the condition of the region and ensure the suitability of the use of the area with the applicable provisions.
"We ask the Ministry of Forestry to also review the area around the Guci tourist spot in Tegal Regency. Yes, later we will try to see what the condition is like," he said.
According to Prasetyo, the handling and evaluation process is carried out with the same mechanism as the handling of similar cases in a number of other regions, including in three provinces in Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
"Just like in the three provinces in Sumatra, the process is also like that," he concluded.
Previously, MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani said that logging was one of the triggers of flash floods in Tegal Regency, Central Java.
"Yes, this is upstream. This is actually upstream. But on top of it there was a bigger rain, then there was a felling," said Muzani at the Guci tourist area, Tegal, Monday (16/2).
"Therefore, the Regency Government is coordinating with the Ministry of Forestry so that there will be a replanting plan," he added.
