Member of Commission V of the House of Representatives Irmawan asked the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) to immediately complete the repair of the pothole toll road.

This is following preparations to face a surge in vehicle volume during the upcoming Lebaran homecoming.

"We ask BPJT to take quick action to comb the pothole toll road and immediately carry out repairs before the homecoming period arrives. Moreover, at this time we have received information that many toll road sections are potholed due to the high intensity of rain recently," said Irmawan to reporters, Wednesday, February 18.

Irmawan emphasized that damaged infrastructure such as bumpy and potholed roads were crucial factors in accidents, especially when vehicles were traveling at high speeds. In addition to the risk of tire bursts and loss of control, he said, road damage also triggered traffic jams due to sudden braking in the midst of heavy traffic.

Irmawan also reminded that the condition of the toll road is a form of public service. He emphasized that the public who have paid the toll rate are entitled to safe and decent facilities.

"Don't let accidents keep happening because of the same factors from year to year. The state must be present to ensure the safety of citizens' journeys," said the PKB legislator from the Aceh District.

Irmawan also highlighted the effectiveness of road improvements. He asked that toll road managers not only carry out "cosmetic" patching that is temporary, but evaluate the quality of construction, drainage systems, and the durability of structures to heavy vehicle loads.

"The patching method is important for quick handling, but it must be accompanied by a thorough evaluation. Without permanent repairs, the long-term maintenance costs will actually swell," said Irmawan.

In addition, continued Irmawan, Commission V of the DPR RI also encourages BPJT and the Toll Road Business Agency (BUJT) to immediately conduct a comprehensive technical inspection to ensure that there is no road damage that is dangerous during the peak of community mobility later.

"Especially during the peak of the Eid homecoming," he concluded.
