SEMARANG - Around 500 students attended a musical drama performance themed "Indonesian Sovereign Towards Food Self-sufficiency" held by the Semarang Lingkar Theater at the Auditorium of the Semarang State University (Unnes), Gunung Pati, Semarang, Friday, July 24, 2026. The activity is an educational space for the younger generation to cultivate awareness of the importance of realizing national food independence and sovereignty.

Director of the AKK Directorate of Unnes, Mulyo Widodo, said that the art stage is an effective medium to convey the national message because it is able to touch the heart and awaken the public's awareness.

"Food self-sufficiency is a shared responsibility that is not only the government's task, but also involves farmers, academics, students, and all elements of society. According to him, collaboration between art and national spirit will produce positive works that can make a real contribution to the progress of the nation," he said, in a statement received, Friday.

Mulyo also emphasized that students as intellectuals have a strategic role in supporting national development. In the midst of various global challenges, food independence is one of the important issues that must receive joint attention. Therefore, Unnes continues to encourage students to contribute in a tangible way to support national food self-sufficiency policies.

Meanwhile, Member of Commission D of the Semarang City DPRD, Dr. H. Anang Budi Utomo, assessed that the staging of the theater was a form of student concern for strategic national issues. According to him, a nation's ability to meet the food needs of the community is one of the important indicators of the level of welfare.

"The spirit of food self-sufficiency needs to start from the smallest environment, starting from individuals, families, to community and state life. The current government, he continued, is also continuing to strive to realize food self-sufficiency as one of the national development priorities." said Anang.

BEM Unnes President Septiana Linasari said food self-sufficiency is an important agenda that must be escorted together as part of efforts to realize an independent Indonesia. He hopes that the staging of the theater will be able to provide learning and positive messages for students to be more concerned about the development of the agricultural sector and national food sovereignty.

On this occasion, the Semarang Lingkar Theater presented a musical drama entitled "Soko Tani" which tells the story of the struggle of farmers in realizing a more prosperous life through the price of crops that are worthy. The performance also highlights the important role of the younger generation in bringing innovation and technological transformation in the agricultural sector, as well as inviting the public to be grateful for the potential of Indonesia's natural resources and together to maintain the sustainability of agriculture as the foundation for food self-sufficiency.
