BOGOR - The Nanggung Sector Police temporarily stopped searching for victims of the alleged incident in the Pongkor mine pit, Nanggung, Bogor Regency, West Java, after the joint team no longer found the victim after a week of searching.

The head of the Nanggung Police, AKP Ucup Supriatna, said the search involved Basarnas from Jakarta, who first conducted an assessment before the team entered the location.

"We entered the search at around 14.00 WIB with the Antam rescue team (PT Aneka Tambang). The victim's family went to the location, but did not enter," he said as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 21.

He explained that the search process lasted until 17.00 WIB. Based on the survivors' statements and the SAR team's search, the point suspected to be the victim's location has been checked, but no victims were found.

"From the video and the available information, it is true that the location was checked, but all the victims were not found," he said.

Furthermore, at around 18.00 WIB, a joint team from the Police, Polda, SAR team, and PT Antam decided to temporarily stop the search. This decision, according to Ucup, has been conveyed and accepted by the family.

"Last night it was decided to temporarily stop it and the family has accepted it," he said.

Regarding the exact information regarding the number of victims, Ucup said that reports from residents were still confusing. "There is information from residents saying three people, but it is not certain. We are still investigating because the information is not clear," he said.

Even though the search was temporarily stopped, the Nanggung Police opened a post and reporting service for people who have information or families who feel lost.

Previously, the joint team had evacuated three miners in the Pongkor area, Bogor Regency, West Java, a week after the smoke cloud incident, with all the victims found to be dead.

The Nanggung Police recorded that in addition to the three miners from Urug Village, Sukajaya District, who were successfully evacuated by the joint team, there were other miners who died due to the smoke cloud, but had managed to be evacuated independently, namely two residents of Malasari Village, Nanggung District.
