JAKARTA - The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah hopes that the construction of the Hajj Village in Saudi Arabia can proceed according to plan and some of the towers can be used for the implementation of the hajj in 2028.

Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mohammad Irfan Yusuf said that the use of the Hajj Village was not yet possible in the near future because the construction process took a long time.

"What is clear is that this year it is not possible. Next year is not yet, because building it is not enough for a year. We hope that by 2028 at the latest, there will be some towers that can be used," said Irfan in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, January 8.

Irfan explained that the development of Haji Village was entirely managed by the Anagata Nusantara Power Investment Management Agency (Danantara). In this case, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah will act as the user of the facility.

He is optimistic that the Haji Village project can run smoothly because the budget support is not considered a hindrance. In addition, the Government of Saudi Arabia is said to have given a positive response to the development plan.

"I think the budget has no constraints. Andantara has money. Then the bureaucracy of Saudi Arabia is very welcome. We focus on the preparation of our haj pilgrims. Regarding the Hajj Village, of course, more Danantara domains," he said.

Meanwhile, Danantara Indonesia reported the progress of the development of the Hajj Complex in Mecca with the Thakher Area as the initial foundation which is currently underway. The area includes the Novotel Thakher Makkah which is already operating on an area of about 4.4 hectares.

The location of the area is about two to three kilometers from the Grand Mosque and has 1,461 rooms spread across three towers. In addition, there are about 14 plots of land planned for further development, including commercial areas and retail centers.

Danantara Indonesia's Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir said that gradually the area was designed to develop to have around 6,000 rooms with an estimated capacity of approximately 22,000 pilgrims.

"This amount is equivalent to about 10 percent of the total number of Indonesian pilgrims every year," said Pandu.

He added that the development of the Thakher Area was not only focused on providing accommodation, but was also directed at building a more integrated pilgrim service ecosystem, ranging from retail facilities, logistical support, to various other supporting services.
