BENGKULU - The Bengkulu City Government (Pemkot) has deployed and alerted 310 sanitation workers to anticipate the accumulation of garbage during the long Christmas and New Year 2026 holidays in the region.
"Our officers work seven days a week. There is no holiday, in fact, at moments like this they will be more motivated to work," said Acting Head of the Bengkulu City Environment Service (DLH) Afriyenita in Bengkulu, Antara, Sunday, December 28.
He said that the deployment of hundreds of sanitation officers was carried out because during the Christmas and New Year holidays, it was predicted that the volume of garbage in Bengkulu City would increase.
The increase was due to the high number of tourists from outside the city of Bengkulu to a number of tourist attractions in the region such as Panjang Beach, Marlborough Fort, Bung Karno Exile House, and others.
For this reason, the Bengkulu City DLH still deploys sanitation officers even in the middle of the Christmas and New Year holidays, to ensure that the cleanliness and beauty of the city's face are maintained.
Afriyenita explained that as many as 310 sanitation workers consisted of street sweepers, truck drivers and garbage transport crews, gardening officers, and others.
He hopes that with the deployment of hundreds of sanitation officers, Bengkulu City during the Christmas and New Year holidays will remain clean, comfortable and beautiful.
Meanwhile, the Bengkulu City Government has also alerted 40 members of the Transportation Service in a number of border areas and tourist attractions to ensure security, traffic flow and tourist comfort during the Christmas and New Year 2026 holiday season.
"During the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Bengkulu City Dishub deployed 40 personnel who were alerted at security and service posts, and were included in the Bengkulu Polresta Nala Lilin Operation," said Acting Head of the Bengkulu City Transportation Office (Dishub) Medy Pebriansyah.
He said that members of the Bengkulu City Dishub would also carry out patrols regularly at a number of crowded points that could experience an increase in community activity.
"Our personnel are also stationed at several crowded points, such as tourist areas and locations that have been mapped with the potential for density, congestion, vulnerability, and traffic accidents," he said.
