PALANGKA RAYA - A member of the Katingan Police Narcotics Unit, Central Kalimantan, died and two other personnel were reported missing while participating in an operation to raid suspected drug traffickers in Tumbang Kalemei Village, Katingan Regency.
"It's true that there was an incident and right now we are still focusing on searching for the two members who have not been found," said Katingan Police Chief, AKBP Dodik Hartono, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, July 2.
He explained that the operation began with a raid on the alleged perpetrators of drug crimes. In the operation, officers managed to secure one of the alleged perpetrators.
However, the situation changed when a number of family members of the alleged perpetrator were suspected of resisting officers using sharp weapons during the arrest process.
"When one of the perpetrators was secured, suddenly the family of the perpetrator attacked the members using machetes. Members on the ground then took firm and measured action so that one person from the family of the suspected perpetrator died," he said.
Dodik explained that the resistance then triggered other residents to come to the location so that the situation became uncontrollable.
The police personnel on duty tried to secure themselves and control the situation.
In the incident, Aipda Yudhi Perdana Putra was killed while on duty as a member of the Katingan Police Narcotics Unit.
Meanwhile, the other two personnel are still being searched with a search around the scene and the river.
"Currently we are still focusing all efforts to find the two members who are still unknown," he said.
Dodik added that the security conditions in Tumbang Kalemei Village are now gradually conducive.
The police also continue to carry out security and investigate the series of events that occurred during the operation.
"Currently, the situation is conducive. The perpetrator's family has fled the location. A total of 50 personnel from the Central Kalimantan Police have also moved to provide assistance and support in handling this incident," said Dodik.
