JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) claims that joint officers with the TNI and Polri work up to 20 hours per day to accelerate the recovery process and handle the impact of disasters in the Sumatra region.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that the post-disaster recovery process for floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra continues to be accelerated through the deployment of personnel and equipment to the maximum.
"Cleaning of the affected areas continues, including in Aceh Tamiang, by deploying personnel and equipment to the maximum," said Abdul through the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 23.
Abdul said that the intensity of the officers' work in the field was very high at a number of disaster-affected points.
"At some points, TNI and Polri personnel work up to 18-20 hours per day to accelerate recovery and revive people's economic activities," he said.
In addition to Aceh Tamiang, BNPB is also continuing to strengthen recovery support in areas with a high number of refugees, such as North Aceh, East Aceh, Central Aceh, and Bener Meriah.
The support for recovery includes adding the number of evacuation tents and speeding up the cleaning of infrastructure affected by the disaster.
In his presentation, Abdul Muhari explained that restoring land access in Aceh was one of the main focuses. A number of bridges on the Bireuen-Bener Meriah connection route have returned to function, while several areas in Central Aceh and Bener Meriah are still facing restrictions on access to four-wheeled vehicles.
"Several roads can already be passed by two-wheeled vehicles, but not optimally. The government will continue to strive so that before the end of December the road can be passed by four-wheeled vehicles," said Abdul.
Efforts to accelerate are also carried out through the construction of an alternative western route from Nagan Raya to Central Aceh, with the progress of the Kureng Betong Bridge construction which has reached about 70 percent.
"If it can be completed this weekend, then access to Central Aceh from the eastern route can be opened," he said.
BNPB emphasizes that the gradual opening of road access is the key to ensuring that the flow of people, goods, heavy equipment, and logistics can run smoothly again, so that recovery at the beginning of the year can take place faster and more significantly in all affected areas.
