JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian assessed that the regional head election system (Pilkada) directly does not automatically produce good regional heads as expected by the public.

"It turns out that the direct regional elections don't have to automatically make the regional heads good," Tito said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, December 11.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Home Affairs when responding to questions about studies on the regional head election system after the arrest of the Central Lampung Regent Ardito Wijaya by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Tito said the arrest would also be one of the evaluation materials for the current Pilkada system.

"So our evaluation material is approximately, including an evaluation of the regional head recruitment mechanism," he said.

Previously, the discourse about regional heads being elected by the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) emerged after being proposed by the General Chairperson of the Golkar Party Bahlil Lahadalia.

"Especially regarding the Pilkada, a year ago we said, if possible the Pilkada will be elected through the DPRD only. There are many pros and cons, but after we study, it would be better if we did it according to the election through the Regency/City DPR so that it would no longer be dizzy," said Bahlil at Istora Senayan, Jakarta.

The proposal was conveyed by Bahlil during a prayer with the Celebration of the Peak of Golkar's 61st Anniversary entitled Striving Together Building an Advanced Indonesia at Istora Senayan, Jakarta.

The event was also attended by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Chairman of the MPR RI Ahmad Muzani, Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives Puan Maharani and Chairman of the DPD RI Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, as well as a number of state officials and leaders of political parties.

Bahlil said the discussion of the draft law (RUU) would begin next year by involving all parties so as to accommodate the aspirations of all parties.

"This is so that the discussion can be comprehensive, careful and careful, by involving extensive input. This bill must go through an in-depth study," he said.

Bahlil emphasized that the discussion on the Political Law must include aspirations from all parties, so that no party feels that their aspirations are not being heard and lead to a lawsuit against the Constitutional Court.
