JAKARTA Floods and landslides in West Sumatra (West Sumatra) have damaged a total of more than 400 road infrastructure points, seriously hampering emergency handling and logistics distribution. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) together with local governments are now focusing on deploying heavy equipment and sending air assistance to isolated areas.

According to the BNPB report, the total road damage reached 321 points at the district/city level, 172 points on provincial roads, and 62 points on national roads. This massive damage makes access improvement a top priority.

As many as 25 units of heavy equipment from the National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) of the Ministry of PUPR have been deployed to repair national roads in Solok, Agam, and Tanah Datar Regencies. Meanwhile, the West Sumatra Highways Office is responsible for repairing provincial roads.

Not only roads, this disaster also damaged bridges. A total of 22 units of bailey type emergency bridges are urgently needed in several districts/cities, including Agam, Pasaman, Padang Pariaman, and Tanah Datar.
