JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has accelerated the recovery of communication services in areas affected by flash floods in the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra (North Sumatra), and West Sumatra (West Sumatra).
This effort was carried out by alerting 10 emergency internet service points based on the SATRIA-1 satellite to restore the connectivity of residents who had been cut off since the disaster hit.
Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid stated that the provision of emergency internet access is a priority for the government. He emphasized the importance of the presence of SATRIA-1 as a solution when conventional communication networks were not functioning.
"When the communication network is cut off, SATRIA-1 comes as a savior. In this way, residents can reconnect even though connectivity infrastructure is experiencing disruption," said Meutya Hafid in an official statement, Sunday, quoted by Antara.
Meutya explained that the SATRIA-1 satellite, which has been operating since last year, is designed to reach 3T areas and areas that are difficult to access, including when major disasters occur.
He also asked the public to remain vigilant, follow the officers' directions, and take advantage of internet access to obtain official information from the government.
On Sunday today, the BAKTI Komdigi Team together with BNPB, SAR Team, and TNI have mobilized the device to the internet service installation location. All points are targeted to be operational immediately to support emergency communication in the field.
The 10 locations for the installation of SATRIA-1 internet services are Pinangsori Airport/Dr. Fredric Lumban Tobing, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra; SMAN 1 Plus Matauli Pandan, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra; Near Baitul Gafur Mosque, North Aceh Regency, Aceh Command Center, Central Aceh Regency, Aceh.
