The Cesium-137 Handling Task Force (Cs- 137) will temporarily suspend the operations of PT Luckione Environmental Science Indonesia after four times being found to import goods contaminated with Cs-137 through Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta.
Head of the Communication and Diplomacy Division of the Handling Task Force Cs-137 Bara Krishna Hasibuan said the temporary suspension was carried out through coordination with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), on the recommendation of the Nuclear Energy Supervisory Agency (Bapeten).
"The task force is taking firm steps so that the company is temporarily suspended from its business activities, while the government has finished conducting environmental audits of the company," Bara said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, November 24.
Based on his presentation, PTLuckione Environmental Science Indonesia is a metal smelting company located in the Cikande Modern Industrial Area (MCIE), Serang Regency, Banten.
He said that on November 14, 2025, the Tanjung Priok Port authority again found eight containers containing zinc powder (bubuk zinc) contaminated with Cs-137 from Angola. The container is now being held while waiting for the administrative process to be re-exported.
Bara explained that the findings were the fourth incident that was successfully prevented by port authorities, after three shipments were previously found to have come from the Philippines. All of these imports were carried out by the same company.
He then emphasized that the government would not tolerate unhealthy business practices and endanger national security, as well as public health and safety.
"We emphasize that the company cooperates fully with the task force in the audit process later," he asserted.
The Task Force, said Bara, also handled the findings of Cs-137 contamination in two containers containing footwear products returned from the United States. After coordinating with the producers, it was agreed that all these products would be destroyed.
In addition, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) as a certified entity has scanned 920 containers of shrimp products for export to the United States. Of these, 121 containers have been sent and 262 containers are declared ready to be dispatched.
Bara expressed his appreciation to the KKP for the effective certification process, thus ensuring the safety of export products and preventing the re-entry of Cs-137 contaminated goods into Indonesian territory.
"This step is the government's seriousness in dealing with the impact of the Cs-137 contamination in Indonesia," he said.
