JAKARTA - The Riau Police together with the TNI, Basarnas, BPBD, and related stakeholders held Hydrometeorological Disaster Preparedness Apples in the face of potential floods, landslides, high waves, and extreme weather which are expected to increase from November 2025 to February 2026.

The ceremony led by the Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryyawan took place at the Riau Police Headquarters Field, Jalan Pattimura, Pekanbaru, Wednesday, November 5. The apple was also attended by the Commander of the XIX/Mrku Tambusai Maj. Gen. Agus Hadi Waluyo, Deputy Governor of Riau SF Hariyanto, and the ranks of the Riau Forkopimda.

A total of 31,000 joint TNI (National Police) personnel, BPBD, Basarnas, Manggala Agni, and related agencies were alerted to anticipate various potential hydrometeorological disasters in the Riau region.

Inspection of facilities and infrastructure is carried out directly by the Kapolda and Pangdam, including monitoring drones, rubber boats, water pumps and nozzles, rescue trucks, diving equipment, tactical vehicles, water treatment units, to medical equipment and ambulances. These various facilities are prepared to ensure the readiness of rescue and evacuation operations in the event of a disaster.

Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryyawan emphasized that this joint rally was carried out to strengthen the commitment of all elements in preparedness, especially entering the extreme weather period as predicted by BMKG.

"This Apel strengthens commitment and determines future steps to deal with the hydrometeorological disaster response situation, which according to the BMKG report increased from November 2025 to February 2026," said Inspector General Herry in his statement, Wednesday, November 5.

In addition to deploying troops and infrastructure, the Riau Police also carried out simulations of disaster management to test rapid responses and cross-agency synergies, ranging from personnel mobilization, traffic regulation, to scenarios for saving victims in water.

Evacuation simulations on the coast were also carried out, considering the potential for high waves in three priority coastal areas, namely Dumai, Bengkalis, and Meranti Islands.

"We simulate how to save victims, including sickles and other water equipment, especially in coastal areas," explained the Kapolda.

Inspector General Herry also said that although rainfall is predicted to increase, the threat of forest and land fires must still be watched out for because extreme weather patterns can change at any time. He gave an example of the quick handling of forest and land fires in Kampar Regency some time ago which was successfully extinguished within two hours thanks to field collaborations of all related elements.

In his mandate, the Kapolda emphasized that this preparedness is a manifestation of the state's presence in protecting the community. "We must be able to show that the state is always present to protect the people in any situation, especially during difficult times," he said.

He also expressed his appreciation to the ranks of the TNI, Basarnas, BPBD, Manggala Agni, local governments, and volunteers who continue to synergize in disaster mitigation and response. "Hopefully we will continue to maintain this collaborative step for the safety and peace of the people of Riau," he concluded
