BNPB: Flood Handling In Semarang Begins To Show Positive Results

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that flood management in Semarang City, Central Java, showed positive results after a number of technical and collaborative steps were carried out across agencies over the past week.

Deputy for Emergency Management of BNPB, Budi Irawan, said that the decline in standing water began to be seen at a number of points, especially in the northern region of Semarang.

"Alhamdulillah, all the plans that were realized yesterday have now been realized. Pumps are added, guarded, and monitored. In the downstream sector, they also continue to be addressed. We have even carried out weather modification operations with two planes," Budi said in a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday, November 2 night.

The improvement of the drainage route or the outlet of the Terboyo retention pond is the main focus because this location is a downstream that accommodates water flow from residential areas around it.

BNPB assesses that the disposal route in the Terboyo retention pond is one of the main factors causing flooding that hit Semarang, especially in the sea toll road construction area.

In addition to strengthening the downstream sector, BNPB also adds portable pump units at several inundation points and carries out intensive monitoring to ensure that the entire system runs optimally.
