Minister Of Environment Reminds Land Reduction Due To Water Exploitation

JAKARTA - Minister of Environment (LH)/Head of the Environmental Control Agency (BPLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq warned that groundwater extraction is one of the most frequent land subsidence factors on the coast of Java Island.

"From now on, what is viral, Aqua, which is not from mountain water, is said to be and indeed taking exploitative groundwater, has really lowered the face of our land, at least along the coast of Java Island," said Minister LH/Head of BPLH Hanif at the KLH Collaboration Continuation Chancellor Forum with Higher Education in Environmental Protection and Management in Jakarta, Thursday, October 30, reported by ANTARA.

He explained that the latest study showed land subsidence reaching 10 to 15 centimeters (cm). This condition is evenly distributed from the west end to the east on the island of Java.

The condition of land subsidence was then exacerbated by the crisis of rising sea levels due to climate change. Seeing these conditions, he highlighted the need for a multidisciplinary approach from experts spread across various universities.

For this reason, strengthening the Center for Environmental Studies (PSLH) at various universities has then become the key. He hopes that collaboration between KLH and Kemdiktisaintek can then expand PSLH's role in supporting policy formation at the central and regional levels as well as its implementation at the regional level.

"Today, of course, in the midst of the efforts of the President to increase the rate of economic growth by more than 8.3 percent, of course, efforts to integrate all of our scientific studies into documents which can quickly formulate our policies are very much requested," he said.

Not only that, he encourages cooperation in ensuring environmental instruments including air quality control, water, rivers and even microplastics.
