Wrongly Mention The Name Of The President Of The Republic Of Indonesia At The ASEAN Summit, Radio Televisyen Malaysia Apologizes

JAKARTA - Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), which is a public broadcasting station owned by the Malaysian government, apologized for the mistake of commentators in mentioning the name of the President of the Republic of Indonesia upon arrival at the 47th ASEAN Summit, Sunday.

In a live broadcast session for the arrival of ASEAN leaders and world leaders at the ASEAN Summit, Kuala Lumpur, Sunday, RTM commentator said that the figure of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo. At that time Prabowo had just arrived at the ASEAN Summit, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLC), riding a white Mercedes-Benz Maybach sedan on Sunday afternoon, October 26.

This was heard by journalists from various countries who were present at the media center of the ASEAN Summit.

"The Malaysian Broadcasting Department apologizes sincerely for the mistakes that occurred during the live broadcast of RTM in the context of the 47th ASEAN Summit and the related meeting held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLC)," wrote a statement received in Kuala Lumpur, Sunday.

The RTM stated that based on the results of an internal investigation, it was found that the broadcast commentator had mistakenly referred to the President of the Republic of Indonesia as Joko Widodo, even though the current President of the Republic of Indonesia is Prabowo Subianto.

The RTM takes this seriously and has taken appropriate action. RTM hereby apologizes to the President and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as to all parties affected by this error," the statement said.

RTM stated that it will continue to strengthen editorial supervision and the fact-checking process to ensure that all information that is broadcast is accurate and delivered with integrity.
