KSAL Calls The Indonesian Navy Turning To Apply The Defense Concept From Green To The Blue Water Navy

JAKARTA - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali said the Indonesian Navy was trying to slowly implement the concept of Green Water Navy's sea defense to the Blue Water Navy.

"We hope to become a Green Water Navy first before becoming a Blue Water Navy," said Ali at the North Jakarta Kolinlamil pier, Friday, which was confiscated by Antara.

To note, the Blue Water Navy concept is a naval model in which a country has the main weapon system power of a large sea (alutsista) and the maximum number of fleets making it possible to undergo military operations outside the marine area of its own country.

This naval model is commonly used for countries that want to carry a fleet across the ocean to carry out attacks or invasions.

The Green Water Navy is a term for the navy that has medium military power so it cannot carry out major operations outside the marine area of its country.

Generally the navy with this model conducts defense operations to strengthen surveillance of domestic sea areas.

According to Ali, to become a Blue Water Navy requires a large fleet of forces, making it possible to travel across the sea.

One of the elements needed to implement the Blune Water Navy model is to own an aircraft carrier.

Now, the Indonesian Navy is trying to buy an Italian naval aircraft carrier, Giuseppe Garibaldi, made by the Fincantieri shipyard.

If the ship arrives, Ali believes that the Indonesian Navy may be able to implement the Blue Water Navy concept but not to carry out an invasion operation.

"We may be able to become a Blue Water Navy, but not an invasion. To carry out diplomacy activities that are goodwill, a visibility port, for example military operations other than war (OMSP), humanitarian assistance, and it is very functioning and beneficial," said Ali.

Now, Ali continued, the Indonesian Navy is still focused on strengthening its military strength in order to implement the Green Water Navy marine defense model.
