Keep The Habitat Of Orang Utan In The Production Forest, Ministry Of Transportation: We Will Definitely Conservation

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) ensures that it has a preservation area to protect protected areas, including the habitat of endangered animals, orangutans, Kalimantan (Pongo pygmaeus) in the production forest area.

"So we make sure, so for sure, if it becomes a protected area of animal, we will definitely conserve it. So there is an area called a preservation area," said Director of Forest Product Processing and Marketing at the Directorate General of Forest Management Lestari (PHL) of the Ministry of Forestry Erwan Sudaryanto in a media briefing in Jakarta, Friday, confiscated by Antara.

The preservation area, as regulated in Law (UU) Number 32 of 2024 concerning Amendments to Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems (KSDAHE), refers to areas aimed at supporting the support function of life support or the survival of biological natural resources and their ecosystems.

The preservation area refers to areas outside the area of the nature asylum area (KSA), natural conservation areas (KPA) and conservation areas in the waters, coastal areas, and small islands (KKPWP3K).

He gave an example of the existence of a preservation area such as an elephant conservation area in the concession area granted by President Prabowo Subianto in Central Aceh.

However, based on reports from environmental organizations Auriga Nusantara from Indonesia and Earthsight from the UK, it was highlighted that there was a threat of deforestation against the habitat of the orangutans due to Indonesian wood production sold to the European market.

Responding to this, he ensured that the government's policy was not only focused on producing wood but also considering the conservation of Indonesia's biodiversity, including endangered animals such as the orangutans.

"So don't worry. Based on the report from the NGO, it is necessary to do a study whether it is true. But we are very grateful for the report, which we will clearly confirm later," he said.

He ensured that cooperation continues between the Directorate General of PHL and the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) regarding the implementation of the conservation area outside the conservation area, especially in the production forest area.
