SAMARINDA - The Narcotics Detective Unit of the Samarinda Police, East Kalimantan, has uncovered a case of cross-country drug trafficking. The police secured more than 13 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine evidence.

Head of Samarinda Police Grand Commissioner Arif Budiman said that the methamphetamine was obtained from two suspects, namely Burhan (45) and Raden (42) in two different locations.

From the two of them, information was obtained that the crystal methamphetamine with a total weight of 13.52 kilograms came from Tawau, Malaysia.

"We managed to secure the first suspect, Raden, on S. Parman Street Samarinda, then through the suspect's cell phone, communication was found with another network, namely Burhan, which we then also secured at the Mildtown Hotel Samarinda parking area, not far from the location of S. Parman Street," said Arip Budiman as quoted by Antara.

Burhan was found to be a blue bag containing a large package with crystal methamphetamine weighing 2.82 kilograms which were stored in the motorcycle seat.

"We also secured a mobile phone unit, as well as the suspect's motorbike registration, in which there is a receipt for payment of house rent," added Grand Commissioner Arif.

Through the home payment receipt, it is known that the address is at Pemuda 1 Street, RT 08, Temindung Village, Sungai Pinang District, Samarinda.

"The officers went to the address in question and conducted a search inside the house and found a large package which was suspected of being 10.7 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine," said Grand Commissioner Arif.

According to him, the two actors acted as couriers, while the police were still investigating the owner of the goods.

"The route used so the goods from Malaysia arrive in Samarinda is still in the process of being developed," he continued.

Currently, the two perpetrators are being held at the Samarinda Police. Both of them are charged with Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with a maximum threat of 15 years in prison.
