JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to take part in the 47th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia, whose series starts this weekend.

The ASEAN 47th Summit series will be held on October 26-28. President Prabowo together with all heads of state and heads of government of member countries will attend. Meanwhile, from Myanmar, non-political representations will be represented.

One of the concerns is that Timor Leste will officially become a full member of ASEAN at this summit.

The Director General of ASEAN Cooperation at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sidharto R. Suryodipuro, said that after the submission of the UN Charter accession instrument from Timor Leste to ASEAN at the Minister of Foreign Affairs Meeting (FMM) and the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapons Free Zone Agreement (SEANWFZ) on October 25.

Timor Leste will become a full member at the opening ceremony of the Summit on October 26, marked by the signing of the declaration of the acceptance of Timor Leste as a member country.

"ASEAN will officially have 11 members," said Ambassador Arto in Jakarta, Wednesday, October 22.

Previously, President Prabowo at the 46th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia in May pushed for Timor Leste's full membership and proposed Papua New Guinea's membership.

In his speech at the summit, President Prabowo said the joining of the two countries would increase the ASEAN war in the duni.

"I think in the current geopolitical uncertainty situation, the stronger ASEAN, the more we will be heard in the discourse of big countries. We know now, only those with the power will be respected," said President Prabowo at the time.

Ambassador Arto said a number of heads of state and heads of government scheduled to attend outside ASEAN included the President of the United States, the Prime Minister of China, the Prime Minister of Japan, the Prime Minister of Australia, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, and the Prime Minister of India.

There are also invited guests from Malaysia as the host, namely the President of South Africa, the Prime Minister of Canada, the Role of the British Minister, the President of the European Council, the Managing Director of the IMF and the President of the World Bank.

"The presence of world leaders reflects how important the ASEAN Summit is this time, along with developments in the world," concluded Ambassador Arto.
